Sorry all....

I'm not doing so well here. I'll get more on here soon.
I contacted a group that has reunions and such for those that served on the ship Vernon was on, the USS Valley Forge. Sent an email telling them about the tons of photos I have, and really aren't sure what to do with them all. I've been kind of looking for some library, historical soctiety, or what have you to donate them to. I'm probably the last generation in the family that will give a hoot about the collection, and don't want it all to just go to the dump someday down the road. They wrote back, and said they'd gladly take whatever I want to send them and add it to their archives. So I've been slowly trying to sort things out. There's also all the pictures he took for the book a Col. Walter Karig wrote about the south sea islands, and they're all mixed up and not labled very well. I'm learning to tell the diff by the subject matter, though. But there's hundreds, if not thousands, to go thru.
I'll keep a small collection for the family though. There's at least duplicates of everything, including the negatives. I don't want to give up EVERYTHING, just in case someone does care later on. But I feel there may be just too much historical importance to not share with an organization like these guys.

Hmmm....I'm thinkin that all that stuff you have and with some story telling...sounds like an interesting book in progress. I know startin to sound like grandma, but it so intrigues me. And I'm a great scrapbooker as well. Man I wish I was there so I could go through it all with you, hear some stories. I don't know why, but I'm drawn to Vern's story and want to know so much more. So I guess what I'm saying is don't feel like you're the last generation to care. I've already told Jim that I will need a room to dedicate to geneology, and he agreed as long as I help him with his family stuff :)

We need to get the rest of Vern's sibblings to tell us all that they know about him so we don't miss anything too! I wish they would get on board with this blog thing so we could all exchange stories and ideas. I'm sure that Vern's life isn't the only interesting story to be told. I know that you know quit a bit, but ya never know what hasn't been told yet. I say that we go for a reunion when you and mom come up. See if we can get dale and his sis to tell more stories and go through some more pictures. And we can record it all.
